I'll Be Back Again

Well, plans have been finalized and it turns out this time tomorrow I'll be on the plane all the way down to Bathurst! We will be gone for about two weeks, and whilst there I may see snow for the first time in my life! So it's out with the big coats, berets and gloves. One thing I know is that I'll have lots of blog reading to catch up on when we get back.

Photo Booth and BMO

Here is my outfit from my the other day out to the movies again with the boy. We've been seeing a lot lately but I think we deserve it. This was the first time I had worn tights this year. It had felt like centuries had passed since I last opened my tights draw. By now I have what seems every colour of the rainbow. I hope this winter I give them all some wearing time. I am also wearing a pair of new shorts (they were too comfy to pass up!) and new yellow sweater.

Outside the cinemas they now have a photo booth machine. And me being the corny person I am I had to get a strip done. Here I am with my one and only. When we got back that evening he also had this waiting as a little surprise for me - a BMO mug! Anyone else a secret Adventure Time lover? In other news, the boy and I may be taking a trip way down south where it sometimes snows this time of year for a week or so. I'll keep you all updated!

Midi Skirt and Boots

Just another quick outfit post. It's getting colder here. Cold enough to start wearing boots on the particularly chilly day, but still not cold enough for a cardigan. I picked up this midi skirt a month or two ago for a couple of dollars at a local second hand store, and I just love it. I've worn it that many times. I never used to like the way I looked in midi skirts, but this one has made me fall in love with them.

I felt a little bit Maureen Starkey, Chrissie Shrimpton in this outfit. I wanted to go all the way and do Mo's signature eye makeup, with a thick black smokey line under my lower lashes. But I don't think it would suit me. Perhaps one day I'll be brave enough to give it a go. When I got home I found these two pictures that I've always loved. I think I was unconsciously inspired by them to pair the boots with a longer skirt, something I usually wouldn't do.

Flowers

Here is the record I was talking about in this post. "Flowers" by The Rolling Stones, an American compilation album that was released in 1967. I've had my eye out for this LP for a while. But it was my mother that found it. She rang me up one day not long ago whilst she was up the coast and said she had stumbled upon a record fair with some brilliant stuff. She brought this one home for me for only $10.00!

The record isn't in the best condition, and nor is the cover. But I don't mind, things like that don't bother me very much. I think it is so groovy that I want to have it out on display in my room but me being me I've already covered pretty much every space on the wall. What also made me happy was that when I flipped the cover over I found that someone had written "Brian". And me being the Brian Jones fan I am, I like to think that someone wrote it there not because they were claiming the record as theirs but because they were a Brian fan too.

I must say though, that this cover always makes me just a little sad. If you are a Rolling Stones lover you may know that Bill Wyman claimed that when the cover was designed Mick Jagger and Keith Richards deliberately removed the leaves from the stem underneath Brian's face. Whether this was a subtle attack on him or just a little prank, it reminds me of the difficulties that were being faced between Brian and the other Stones at the time.

Prints, Paints and Polka-Dots

Yes, I know. It's been a while. But here I am and hopefully here I'll stay for a bit longer than last time. As I may have mentioned in a previous post, I've been away for good reason! Though that doesn't entirely mean good news. But here I will try and stick to the positives.

I have recently finished semester at University, and so all you student readers will know how much that can swamp you for time. But it's all been pretty fab. This semester I had been doing a creative arts unit. Two of my assignments consisted of five recorded musical performances and five created artworks. I think I was in my element and got out all my old work and equipment from my art school days. I went nuts with the brayer and indian ink whilst printmaking, and in the end somehow ended up covering myself in acrylic paint as well as the bathroom. Not to mention that I carpeted the lounge almost completely with all the prints. It was good fun to do again. I hadn't created art seriously for a long while. The musical performance on the other hand was a bit of a winged job left to the last minute. Lucky I also have a musical background!

I've gotten some lovely things recently, some bought new and some bought old, such as this lovely vintage perfume bottle and this sweet little manicure set in a heart shaped purse (actually that one was won at an arcade). I hope to do a post showing you all these knick knacks soon, including a new record to add to my collection. In other news, the boy and I may also have a place to ourselves for the next six months. We shall see.

Anyhoo, above is the outfit I wore out to the movies the other day with the boy. The belt is by far my favourite item. It was passed down to me by a close family friend. She had kept it all these years since her youth in the 1960's. It is also perhaps the first ever vintage piece I ever wore out ,about ten years ago.

Have you been doing any projects lately, work related or for leisure?

Or do you have a treasured vintage piece that was handed down to you?

Three's A Charm

I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I do have good reason for it though - I promise! Anyway, here is another "Three's A Charm" post, the first of my "Seeing Double" series including a male. Here we have Marianne Faithfull, George Harrison and an unknown sixties bird all wearing this nifty little pair of heart shaped shades with gold frames. All look fabulous in them, and you can clearly see how versatile these little shades are, looking snazzy with almost anything. I do have to say however that I think George looks the best. I don't think there are many men in this world that could pull off shades like this!

What do you think?
